My name is Julia Pessis and I am a Certified Sexological Bodyworker. This is the most fulfilling work I have ever done.  I meet people in their uniqueness, regardless of sexuality, gender, age, relationship status, or physical expression. I support them to reconnect with their own unique body, to discover what has been held in it, to reclaim the self as a sexual being, as well as unfold layers of cultural conditionings, shame and guilt.

I am trained in Scar Tissue Remediation to help people navigate the post-birth process with far less suffering and more support after birth injuries, gynaecological surgeries such as colposcopies and hysterectomies, endometriosis, gender reassignment surgeries and pelvic pain of all kinds, as well as scars after breast cancer surgeries so help bring back lost sensations.

Previous to Sexbod, I practised Fasciatherapy based on the Danis Bois methodology, which was my starting point to reconnect with

my own body. This method combines soft tissue manual treatment, body movement and perceptual education. It is a tool that has been of much use in my sexbod practice, working with scar tissue remediation and genital touch.

I live and work in Sintra Portugal. I am also available for  coaching sessions online via skype or zoom. I am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

I am an experiencial Educator and I worked for many years facilitating group processes involving team building and leadership program. I hold a BA. in Visual Arts and professional certificates in Sexological Bodywork™ by the Institute of Somatic Sexology, Tantra Therapy & Healing, Massage & Bodywork from the European Association of Tantra Professionals. I did Like a Pro with Betty Martin and I work with the Wheel of Consent in my practise.

"Grata pelo espaço seguro que criaste com a tua presença e conhecimento, onde me senti totalmente acolhida e amada. A partilha despertou sem dúvida para aspectos e partes de mim que não considerava ou negava e guiou-me na sua re-descoberta, no sentido de me conectar mais profundamente com o todo que sou e os seus potenciais.

Tenho notado que procuro mais o toque do corpo (não necessariamente zonas erógenas) e que no geral está mais activo e vibrante. Ao nível do espírito sinto leveza e clareza."

"Grateful for the safe space you have created with your presence and knowledge, where I felt totally welcomed and loved. The sharing undoubtedly awakened aspects and parts of me that I did not consider or that I deny them and it guided me in its re-discovery, in the sense of connecting deeper with the my wholeness and its potentials.

I have noticed that I am looking to touch more my body (not necessarily erogenous zones) and that in general feels more active and vibrant. At the spiritual level I feel lightness and clarity. "

Frequently asked questions

How is SexBod different than therapy?

If you decide for Sexological Bodywork you will be invited to stepping into your body to find its language through sensations and the felt sense. For any bodywork related to sexuality we first step into embodiment and learn about our other brains as well as our cognitive.
We work on training the nervous system to restore the natural resilience of your basic biological operating system, supporting to release the past and navigate stress--and life in general--with greater ease.
While SexBod can be therapeutic, it is not therapy. SexBod is distinct from therapy in that it addresses the physiology underlying psychological or emotional issues rather than working exclusively with a person's psychology/congition. While emotional and psychological issues or traumatic narrative may arise during our sessions, the primary focus of SexBod is to address the physiological manifestations of these issues and help the body restore its natural resilience.
Sexological Bodywork Practitioners do not diagnose or treat mental or medical health conditions. Our work together with other professionals can compliment and enhance the efficacy of other mental or medical treatment you may be seeking.

How do you help me to feel safe and comfortable?

All sessions take place in a calm, comfortable and private dedicated space for between 1.5 to 2 hours. We will make an agreement together about what we want to achieve in the session and any limits and boundaries. You are always encouraged to experience, notice and communicate whatever is going on in your body at any given time. I will support you to recognise and communicate where your edges are and in your choice of how far towards those edges you wish to explore. You will never be expected to go beyond your edges, yet I can support you and hold space for you in a session if you find yourself there.
In order to protect your safety and wellbeing, I work within the Ethical Code of conduct for Certified Sexological Bodyworkers.

This includes: One-way touch only (from me to client.)
 I am always fully clothed.
Gloves (non latex) are worn for intimate bodywork.
We maintain professional boundaries with clients, do not have relationships with them and are clear that need for intimacy is not met through the work we do together.
 We maintain strict client confidentiality.

How do I decide on length of time for my session?

The length of time of each session does not necessarily relate to the depth of what we explore, That is dependant on depth of presence that we achieve which takes different lengths of time and approaches depending on whats needed to feel safe enough to let go and relax.
We can decide together this once you have experienced what an embodiment session feels like for you with what your unique nervous system requires to deeply relax and how much ground you want to explore and re map in each session. Body time feels different to clock time as you will experience!

Will I be expected to take my clothes off?

The biggest thing I teach is supporting you to be comfortable in your choice with anything and everything you do. You will be guided step by step every step of the way into experimenting with new ways of being and revisiting old ways of being that you are wanting liberation from. I am supporting you to be liberated from other peoples expectations and your own into your acceptance with what is natural and comfortable for you. Its possible to have full embodied transformational experiences fully clothed.
Taking some or all of your clothes off is optional if we are doing bodywork like some aspects of healing body image, intimacy training involving the genitals, trauma release bodywork, scar tissue remediation, learning ejaculatory choice, enhancing sensuality, anal or genital massage/healing. I can direct you to touching yourself under a sheet or I can be with you with my eyes closed while you climtitise to this new experience. The route into nakedness is a step by step process and you will never have to do anything that feels overwhelming and you can change your mind anytime.

Do you design home practice that will support my progress and can I have support in-between sessions?

Yes, at the end of each session, we have reflection time and home work is set for you to continue with your somatic opening. Repetition creates the new neural pathways to enhance and form the changes in your life you are wishing to make. I set you home practice in-between sessions that match your level of comitment and hep you to move forward after the one to one session. You also have support by email.

How long do people generally work with a SexBod Practitioner?

Much can be achieved with a home practice schedule that I will set you. “In session time” with me is only part of the process. I will give you my assessed recommendation with what number of sessions and home practice is realistic for the successful outcome of what you are intending to overcome.

To retrain a nervous system is a gentle integrative process. I find that it is usually most beneficial to schedule sessions once a week to begin, but depending on your budget and how you are responding to and integrating, sessions can be scheduled more or less frequently.

Some people receive immediate and lasting benefit after a few visits, and some people may need to work over the course of 4 or more months to make the changes they seek. If you feel this might be what you need after your first session, I will give you a package of 6 sessions and then check in to see what feels like the best next step for your specific needs.

Most people find that the work of SexBod just keeps deepening. You may benefit dramatically from a few sessions, and then find there are more areas that you are eager to work on as you feel so empowered by what is unfolding. Or you may notice subtle but foundational shifts towards greater resilience over a longer period of time.

Results are individualized. If you experienced repetitive childhood trauma, you may require more extended work together than if you had, for example, a healthy upbringing and then experienced a single traumatic incident as an adult.

My intention is that each time we work together, your sense of skill and capacity grows incrementally in a way that you can take with you. I do my best to ensure that you feel empowered to meet your life with ever-increasing competence and ease so that you don't feel dependent on coming in to maintain the results and feel better.

I understand the leap of faith it takes to be committed to growth and braving what might feel overwhelming right now. Its an investment that actually costs less in the long run and you possibly might spend your money on short term fixes, distractions and cover ups like I have done in my life and learnt the hard way!

Where do you have your practise?

I have my studio in San Pedro de Sintra during the week and saturdays I work in Lisbon. Address to be confirmed when you book your session.
I also offer Skype sessions for those who cannot travel due to geographical or mobility issues.

Can I receive Sexological Bodywork through video conference?

Yes! I would be happy to support you via video conference (Zoom, Skype, etc.). I have found distance work to be highly effective for most people. There are some differences to working remotely, most notably that I cannot provide physical contact, but I can always direct you to making contact with yourself in a way that simulates many of the same effects.
I realize it can take a bit of a mind-shift to imagine doing this kind of work remotely. That said, it can be quite powerful. I have interviewed clients who work with me remotely. They consistently tell me it feels like I am there in the room with them, that they feel safe, and that the work has produced the results they were wanting.
Even without physical proximity, I will help you feel deeply protected, warmly connected, safe and strongly supported. I will be right there with you.

If you are unsure whether remote work is right for you, I invite you for an video conference exploration call
